CHINCHINIM: Despite the tall claims of the government, erratic power supply with frequent daily power interruptions continues in the rural areas of Salcete.
A resident of Durga ward in Chinchinim, Gerson Gomes remarked, “I am from Durga-Chinchinim. Two wards of Durga and Sucaldem are under the Velim sub-station whereas the rest of the Chinchinim village wards lie within the jurisdiction of the Cuncolim sub-station. In a day, we face a minimum of two power cuts that range from half an hour to several hours. When you call the linesmen, they have readymade replies of ‘main gelea’ (mains have gone).
Another Chinchinim resident Mac Afonso said, “There are daily power cuts five to six times in a day and when inquired with the department staff as to the probable reasons for the same, the common excuses are provided of ‘main line gone,’ ’men are working on it’, etc.”
“Department becomes active only when there are occasions or else they prefer to sleep with their phones,” the former Chinchinim-Deussua sarpanch Constancio ‘Costy’ Fernandes added.
