ESG to promote local entrepreneurs in film equipment business
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, MAY 9
After deciding to promote Goa as a film shooting destination, Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) has now began an exercise to promote local entrepreneurs to start film equipment related business in the State.
Nearly 49 local youth were part of the three-day long ‘Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) in films and television lighting and camera equipment’ jointly organised by ESG and Economic Development Corporation (EDC), which concluded on Sunday.
Presenting the welcome address at the valedictory function, ESG CEO Manoj Srivastava said that the basic idea behind this programme was to set up a film industry in the State.
“We have theaters, shooting spots, film finance scheme but we don’t have proper man power to develop a good industry,” Srivastava said.
He said that the programme has given a basic perspective of how this business (renting our lighting and camera for films) is conducted.
The chief guest of the function Chief Minister Digambar Kamat appreciated the work of ESG and EDC for holding such a programme for the benefit of younger generation, who wants to step into this world of films.
“Film industries just don’t comprise of actor, director, producer or musicians. There is much more into it. I feel Goans have great potential and with our help they can do wonders,” Kamat said.
“I have visited various film industries and seen film shootings in Mumbai. There are several Goans who are part of that industry in some or the other way,” he added.
Kamat has urged ESG to come out with more such programmes, which will benefit the youth in the world of entertainment.
Chief Minister was happy to see the participation from the rural areas. “I am very happy that youth from the rural parts of the State have also taken benefit of this programme,” he said.
Vice Chairman of EDC Nitin Cuncolienkar said that we need to create opportunity to develop local talents.
“The state gets around 10 per cent of foreign tourists every year and huge amount of revenue is spent for creating infrastructure for them, which is not needed. There is need that we spend these amounts on the development of our future,” he stated.
Cuncolienkar feels that the film line is great for Goans but there is need of proper direction.
During the valedictory function, certificates were disturbed to all the participants at the hands of chief minister.
