PONDA: Expressing strong resentment to sudden rise in footpath vendors in the market area, the Ponda market vendors led by its president Gharu Sawanth on Tuesday met PMC Chief Officer Vishal Kundaikar demanding that these vendors be evicted within two days failing which they have warned of serious consequences.
The vendors complained that these footpath vendors are depriving them of their business as no customers visit their shops inside the market.
Sawanth said “The number of vendors conducting business on footpath along the road leading to market has increased. Some vendors from Margao and Mapusa have encroached upon the market road and as a result the customers do not enter the market as they prefer to purchase goods sold by these roadside vendors. This has affected our business as we have incurred losses. This has also caused traffic congestion in the area as customers too have been deprived of the parking space in the market.”
The chief officer assured to conduct a joint inspection and take necessary steps.
Chairperson Venktesh Naik too assured to initiate action in this matter.
