PANJIM: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Crime Branch on Monday sought more time to file its reply to the anticipatory bail application of former Mines and Geology Director Arvind Lolinekar and officer A T D’Souza, while counsel of former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat sought more time to file a rejoinder in the bail application.
North Goa District and Session Court has scheduled Kamat’s bail hearing on June 5, while Lolienkar’s and D’Souza’s hearing has been fixed on June 14.
SIT on May 2 had filed their say in the court opposing Kamat’s bail application and had sought time to file their reply to the bail applications of the other two officers. Citing change in investigation officer in the cases as a reason, SIT sought more time to submit their reply to the bail applications.
On May 2, SIT had opposed Kamat’s anticipatory bail had sought his custodial interrogation. The Court had granted Kamat interim relief on April 24. SIT had questioned Kamat in the case in February 2014 and later in April 2017, while Lolienkar was arrested in the same case in 2012.
According to the Justice (Retd) M B Shah Commission report, illegal mining to the tune of Rs 35,000 crore took place in Goa from 2005 to 2012. A complaint was filed by Mines and Geology Department in July 2013 seeking to fix criminal liability on those involved in the illegal mining.
