PANJIM: Goa’s former Chief Secretary R K Srivastava, who recently resigned as Goa State Election Commissioner, has been sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment for fraudulently reviving a Cooperative Society in New Delhi.
The Special Judge for CBI Cases, New Delhi imposed the penalty on the retired AGMUT cadre IAS officer who committed the offence while he held the post of Registrar of Co-operative Societies, New Delhi in 2006. Padam Dutt Sharma, then Deputy Registrar of Co-operative Societies, New Delhi, has also been sentenced to undergo the imprisonment with a fine of Rs 35,000 to be paid to the court by each. Three others Subhash Chander, Mayank Goswami and Ashwani Sharma have been sentenced for undergo four years RI for the scam.
The accused has been charged with entering into a criminal conspiracy with officials of Co-operative Societies, New Delhi in the matter of revival of Shree Radhakrishna Co-op Group Housing Society Limited, Delhi on the basis of false/forged/bogus documents.
The CBI court had begun the investigation based on a preliminary enquiry that established the offence against the accused. A chargesheet was filed against 12 accused in the court of special judge for CBI cases and after the trial’s completion, the court convicted the five accused, acquitted another five whereas two accused died during the process.
Srivastava had in November tendered his resignation from the post citing personal reasons.
