PONDA: Former Volvoi sarpanch Ganshyam Tari reportedly drowned in the Mandovi River at Volvoi on Saturday night.
According to Ponda Police, Ganshyam Tari (52) along with Sadanand Tari had left the Volvoi shore to catch fish in a canoe.
The incident occurred at about 8.30 pm when canoe tilted due to gusty winds.
Police further informed that while both were swimming towards the shore, Ganshyam reportedly drowned, while Sadanand managed to reach the shore.
Sadanand after reaching the shore alerted locals, who conducted search operation and also alerted Ponda Police.
Police said the body was found floating in the Mandovi River at Savoi Verem on Sunday morning.
Police is investigating the case.
