PANJIM: The Excise department has booked 23 cases of the violation of the code of conduct with liquor bars either operating beyond the stipulated time of 11 pm or serving alcohol sans license.
Assistant Commissioner of Excise Satyawan Bhivshet revealed that while 13 offences are reported in the north district, 10 cases were booked in the South. The owners of these establishments would be identified to launch penal action against them.
The North District Magistrate has recently directed that all the liquor bars, shops, pubs, shacks, clubs, provision stores or any establishment serving or selling liquor should shut its operations by 11 pm on a day-to-day basis till the Code of Conduct is in force.
The notification had also warned that if any establishment was found violating the order, it would face cancellation of licenses and the owner or offender shall be liable for penal action under section 188 of Indian Penal Code, Section 30 of the Excise Duty Act, 1964 and other relevant provisions of laws in force.
The Flying Squads, officials of the Excise Department, Sector Magistrate, police and other authorized officers/officials are on their toes to check for any violation.
