PANJIM: Panjim Hotel and Traders Association (PHATA) on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) questioning order on various requirements made whilst renewing trade licence.
PHATA has also demanded that NOC from fire department should not be made mandatory and procedure for other category of business should be simplified.
“During earlier renewals, certain relaxations were given to the businessman, especially hoteliers who were overburdened with various licenses and NOC from different departments,” PHATA convenor Barnabe Sapeco said.
He added, “Fire licence to small traders should not be made mandatory and procedure for other category of business should be simplified.”
It is shocking to note that not a single shop in the CCP market has any fire safety measure in place and there have been a number of fire incidents in the market.”
He said that if case of a major fire there is no proper entry for fire tenders and CCP, in spite of this, has not taken any remedial measures for the safety of consumers and traders.
“The business is reeling under recession and many are facing loss of business, we do not want to be overburdened with more directions. We would like to do business in a tension free environment and expect CCP’s cooperation as businessmen pay taxes to the corporation,” Sapeco added
PHATA has urged CCP to take a humane approach to the problem and allow them to pay CCP trade license fees as followed earlier.
