Expenditure limit set for civic polls

PANJIM: Ahead of the municipal elections for Ponda and Sanquelim, the State Election Commission (SEC) has fixed an expenditure limit of Rs two lakh for each ward. The defaulting candidate will be liable for disqualification.

PANJIM: Ahead of the municipal elections for Ponda and Sanquelim, the State Election Commission (SEC) has fixed an expenditure limit of Rs two lakh for each ward. The defaulting candidate will be liable for disqualification.
“It is necessary and expedient to provide in the interest of purity of election to Municipal Council ward an account of expenditure incurred by the candidate and for matters connected therein,” Election Commissioner R K Srivastava said. 
Fifteen wards in Ponda Municipal Council and 13 in Sanquelim Municipal Council will go to the polls on April 29 and May 6, respectively. The counting for all 28 wards is scheduled on May 7.
