PANJIM: Goa Police have chalked out extensive security arrangements for the two electronic dance music (EDM) festivals – Sunburn and Supersonic – starting from Saturday with 2000-odd khaki-clad personnel manning the venues to ensure problem-free events.
Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg said units of Goa Police, besides the district police, would be on their toes till January 1, 2015. For the two EDMs at Candolim and Vagator, the IPS officer said, police officials in uniform and civil clothes would be deployed in and around the venues.
“Sleuths of the anti-terrorism squad, anti-narcotics cell, coastal police, tourist police, local police stations and traffic police will be on the job. We have meticulously divided the police strength at both venues, whose duties would continue till New Year,” the officer told Herald.
All the superintendents of police and deputy SPs have been tasked with personally supervising the security arrangements.
The major challenge would be handling the traffic chaos as the Traffic Cell has made arrangements to cater to 2,500 vehicles as against 10,000-odd expected daily.
“It will be very stressful but we believe all vehicles would not be parked at the same time. There would be rotation of vehicles,” Garg said. Around 700 traffic personnel have been drawn from various jurisdictions to ensure their presence at crucial spots.
In addition to this, two cranes and fire tenders have been stationed at the venues.
