MAPUSA: Premnath Maulingkar, running a fair price shop at Tivim, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly abusing, assaulting and threatening a ration card holder Benedicto D’Souza (33), also a resident of Tivim. He was later released on bail by a Judicial Magistrate First Class at Mapusa.
According to Mapusa police, D’Souza complained that Maulingkar abused him with filthy language, assaulted him with a pipe causing him bodily injuries. The accused had also allegedly threatened D’Souza with dire consequences.

The incident occurred at 11 am on Wednesday when D’Souza had visited the fair price shop to collect his ration quota. He was allegedly denied his ration quota and as just then officers of the civil supplies department were inspecting the fair price shop, D’Souza complained to them that he has been denied his rice quota.
Angered at this, Maulingkar reportedly went inside his shop, bought a pipe and assaulted D’Souza thereby caused him bodily injuries.
The accused was arrested under Sections 504, 324, 506 (ii) and 188 of IPC. ASI M De Sa is investigating the case.
