PANJIM: In a new twist to the fake marriage certificates racket, it has now been revealed that the police were in the know of the same and instead preferred to sleep over the complaint by a local Masjid committee.
Kassim Mulla claims to be heading Anjuman Thoudeed Ul Muslieen committee and whose name appears as a signatory on the fake marriage certificates, told Herald that “some unknown people were printing these certificates and issuing it which had prompted him to file a complaint with Old Goa police in 2011.”
Mulla also claimed that the committee has been registered twice with the local authority under different names but having same registration number, which itself amounts to fraud.
“I had approached the concerned bureaucrat complaining that the committee is registered twice under the Societies Registration Act. He had apologized…” he said.
The question now arises why police failed to act on the complaint knowing the possible misuse of the crucial document at several government offices to avail different benefits.
The fake marriage certificates being used to avail government’s flagship Griha Aadhar was exposed by Herald last week. The certificates which the state registrar confirmed was bogus, rattled the women and child department headed by Director Sunil Masurkar. The government, it is learnt pulled up the department following which an inquiry has been initiated.
