VASCO: As if on cue, the false ceiling at the Tilak Maidan complex again came crashing down due to constant water leakage following incessant rains. No one however was injured in the incident which was reported in the early hours of Saturday.
The staff handling the maintenance of the Tilak Maidan complex was shocked to note that a potion of false ceiling had collapsed leaving the changing room, VIP room besides the VIP stand of the stadium leaking throughout the day. Similarly due to leakages the rain water entered into the gymnasium area located on the first floor and some other offices and rooms in the complex.
Criticizing the sports authority officials for neglecting the ground maintenance works, the citizens have demanded immediate repairs of the complex.
“Tilak Maidan is one of the better planned grounds in Goa, however its condition is deteriorating by the year,” said Vasco based social worker Kiran Naik.
“This Tilak Maidan which is named after freedom fighter is one of the better planned grounds in Goa after Fatorda, however the condition of the ground is deteriorating by the year and this collapse is proof of the same. Every year we see the concerned officials wake up during the rains and take up repair works using plastic sheets to cover the public stand portion of the ground. Why do they not undertake an overall repair of the ground instead of the piecemeal approach which seems to be in favour?” asked Vasco based social worker Kiran Naik.
