MARGAO: Fatorda police late last night caught notorious thief Paul Chima who had fled from police custody while undergoing treatment at Hospicio in the first week of August. He was caught at Verna along with another person who had helped him by hiding him and providing him food.
The 25-year-old Chima, who is a native of Himachal Pradesh, has many house breaking cases registered against him at different police stations in Goa and was in Margao Town police custody when he was admitted to Hospicio for treatment of some wound on his leg.
On August 4, he fled from Hospicio and took with him the mobile of the patient lying on the adjacent bed and since then police started tracking him through the mobile he had stolen, disclosed Fatorda PI Navlesh Dessai.
Chima reportedly changed the SIM card four times but police could not trace the person as each of these cards was issued in the name of people living in Uttar Pradesh who could not be traced. Police also issues look out notices to the neigbbouring States.
On Friday, Chima changed the SIM card again to a JIO card that was traced at Verna and accordingly Fatorda Police went there. During the day the mobile showed to be in Verna forests, by night it was showing to be in the Industrial Estate in a factory.
The police descended on the factory and with the help of the HR Manager and the watchmen lured the JIO card holder Ratul Haiti to come to the watchman’s cabin and nabbed him there and interrogated him.
The worker revealed that two persons had come to stay with him and his roommates in the flat they had taken on rent on the fifth floor of a building behind the petrol pump opposite Kesarval. He also revealed that during the day time the duo would go out and returned only in the evening to spend the night and had offered to share the rent.
Accordingly, the police team went to the flat and caught Paul Chima along with his accomplish 23-year-old Zakir Ali who is a native of Uttar Pradesh and against whom there are house breaking cases registered.
