MARGAO: Fatorda locals have alleged that the mobile tower operators were insensitive to the residents’ wishes and priorities.
Tense moments were witnessed in Ambaji after a group of residents gheraoed employees of Indus Tower while setting up a ground-based mast allegedly without proper permissions opposite the new Presentation Convent High School and inside the compound of the new District Hospital.
The locals alleged that since there was already one tower at the location and they (the residents) had no complaints with the mobile network, another tower was not required at the location.
Jose Dias stated that it was not that they were against towers but since a tower already existed and it was catering to the mobile needs, another tower was not required in the vicinity.
Another local resident Francis Miranda stated that when they asked the employees of Indus Towers to show the permit orders, they had no answer since they didn’t procure permissions or NOC’s from any government department or local bodies including the MMC. Such illegal towers should be opposed and towers should be installed only where they are required. Also, installation of towers illegally at night will not be tolerated and if such attempts continue, the people will strongly oppose such activities.
The locals have decided not to allow installation of the tower at the location and have asked the company officials to remove it, failing which, they will dismantle the same.
