Fearing backlash from international tourists, the Anjuna police has taken action based on tweets. This only shows that if police have a will and a green signal from the top, they can really uphold law and order and fight crime. The Anjuna police have taken in the Japanese Tourist confinement, assault and robbery case based on tweets of the Japanese tourist. It is a great irony how sometimes when locals file complaints, the police do not file FIRs even when the complaints have addressed letters of complaint to the President of India and the Prime Minister.
Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte promptly visited the Mapusa police station to apprise himself of the confinement, assault and robbery of a Japanese tourist at Anjuna. On being informed that three culprits from north India had been arrested he promptly announced a reward of Rs 50000 for the team, fearing that Goa’s reputation as a tourist destination may be sullied. He also stated that strict action will be taken against erring shack operators.
