Feast of St Peter and Assolna Sangodd

MARGAO: The traditional Sangodd was celebrated in Assolna village by the traditional ramponnkars and the villagers.

The parish priest blessed the boats of the traditional ramponkars on Monday, as part of the feast of St Peter, the patron saint of fishermen. San Pedro feast is traditionally celebrated by fishermen all over Goa and normally marks the start of the traditional rampon (beach-seine) fishing activity.
This tradition has been passed down the ages wherein the faithful in the village are convinced of the power of the blessings on this day for God to protect them and also provide them with a good catch. Traditionally people from this area were known to keep their daily work routine aside for the day.
