A meeting of Goa ST, SC and OBC’s Federation has urged the government to revive the Ambedkar Aawas Yojana scheme under the name of Rajiv Gandhi Aawas Housing Scheme and allot plots for the needy people belonging to the Scheduled Tribes.
The meeting also resolved to host the State level Convention of ST, SC and OBC community of Goa near the Nehru stadium, Fatorda on May 2 at 4 pm which will be attended by Union Tribal Affairs Minister, Kantilal Bhuria, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Social Welfare Minister Sudin Dhavlikar and CWC member and Coordinator of the convention Luizinho Faleiro.
Former MLA Antonio Gaunkar said the government had launched the Ambedkar Aawas Yojana scheme, but the same was not implemented for reasons best known to the authorities resulting in the refund of money to the applicants.
While demanding that the scheme be revived by the present government, the former MLA requested the Central government to sanction funds to acquire the land and the construction of the house for the ST people.
Gaonkar said the Late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had a dream to retain Goa’s unique identity and recalled that then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had fixed the cut-off date as February 19, 1968, which was issued by the Central government as Presidential Order.
He has requested the government to send the circulars to all government departments to maintain the cut-off date for all jobs and promotions. The meeting has also asked the Central planning commission for allocation of more funds for utilization of agriculture, horticulture, forest and other welfare facilities for the SC/ST communtieis.
A resolution was also passed to allocate more funds for the OBC and minority for business purpose with 50 per cent subsidy. Gaonkar has appealed to all members of the SC/ST and OBC communities and well wishers to attend the State Convention on May 2 in large numbers and put forth the problems before the government.
