MARGAO: Days after the Salcete Excise office issued a controversial notice levying excise fees for serving liquor at wedding reception and birthday parties, Excise Inspector Nilesh B Naik has issued a corrigendum stating that no licence fees would be imposed on sale of liquor.
The corrigendum has been served on the owners of clubs and halls, besides open dance floors after the Notice dated January 9 kicked up a row of sorts after the excise office sought to levy fees on liquor served for guests at private parties.
The Salcete Excise office rolled back the decision following the intervention of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar after the matter was highlighted by Herald last week.
Meanwhile, Dramapur-Sirlim Panch member Domnick Norohna has thanked the chief minister for keeping up to his word and directing the Excise department to delete the sentence stating that serving any liquor at birthday parties etc in halls, clubs and open air halls would require to pay excise fees by way of occasional licence.
