Fence-sitting CM washes hands off Tiracol and marina projects

Says government neither pushing nor supporting the projects; golf course has all permissions, marinas fulfill criteria

PANJIM: Amidst the heated debate generated over the controversial Tiracol golf course project and the two marinas, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has clarified that the government is neither pushing nor supporting the projects.
Speaking exclusively to Herald and HCN (on the Morning After show), he also allayed fears that the projects will in anyway degrade the environment or deprive job opportunities to Goan youth.
“The Pernem constituency is not opposing the (Tiracol) project except a few of the total population in Tiracol ward. I did not have land there nor did the government sell the property. It is the people who have sold,” he said while also pointing out that the previous Congress-led coalition government had approved the project.
He conceded that he was in favour of the project even while sitting in the opposition particularly because it was aimed at generating employment for the locals without damaging the ecosystem. “The project has all permissions and licenses,” he added.
The chief minister also claimed that marinas have been granted ‘in principle’ approval when reminded that his own legislators – Vishnu Surya Wagh and Alina Saldanha – are up in arms against the project.
While commenting on the crucial issues, Parsekar made it clear that the government did not get the projects and is neither pushing nor supporting them.
