CHORAO: The ramp of an old flat bottom ferry plying on the Ribandar-Chorao fell into the water after the wire rope used to lower and lift it, snapped.

The ferry Sal, which carries passengers and wheeled vehicles, was on its routine night trip, when the steel wire rope suddenly snapped and the metal ramp fell into the river.
, but remained attached to the ferry at one end.
Luckily, no vehicle or passenger was on the metal ramp when it gave way, since there was hardly anyone on the ferry at the time of the mishap, at 2 am, Sunday. Hence a major tragedy was averted. It took the mechanics 10 hours to repair the wire rope and restore the ramp.
The adjustable metal ramp when elevated acts as a wave guard and is lowered to a horizontal position when the ferry reaches the wharf to allow vehicles and passengers to alight.
