Dum Maro Dum may have more dum than expected

Apprehensive that Bollywood flick ‘Dum Maro Dum’, based on Goa’s underbelly will showcase the State in a bad taste, Goa police has demanded with the filmmakers to show them the promotional and all publicity footages before the release.
Reliable police sources confirmed Goa police has sent a letter to the director of the movie Rohan Sippy asking him to show the promotional and publicity materials before releasing the movie or its promotional events officially.
It is learnt the letter was apparently sent to the film makers on Tuesday morning.
Police spokesperson Superintendent of Police Atmaram Deshpande said that he was not in the know about the letter to Sippy. “No such letter from the police headquarters has been sent as per my knowledge”, Deshpande told Herald.
The movie Dum Maro Dum, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu and Deepika Padukone revolves around drugs, sex, etc for which Goa has been receiving bed press.
Sources said, “After British teen Scarlet Keeling’s mysterious death on Anjuna beach in 2008, the social conflicts between the Russian mafia and Goan locals and the drug nexus, Goa Government was apprehensive about any negative publicity”.
They mentioned the police wanted to perform this prior check to see how Goa has been portrayed to ensure that the same in no way affected the State’s tourism image.
The entire movie has been shot in Goa. It has Abhishek Bachchan playing a cop from the Goa police.
Director Tourism Swapnil Naik said Goa Government should indeed look into the matter, especially because the movie was shot in the State.
“Movies are considered to be true depiction. There should be some control over the movies based on any sensitive issues. Since this one is based on Goan issues, the Government should make it doubly sure it is not an exaggerated portrayal”, Naik mentioned.
It is learnt that Sippy would personally fly down to Goa with the theatrical promos of the movie. The film’s spokesperson told Herald that they are willing to cooperate with the Goa police, however, the movie trailers will be released in theaters on Friday.
“The movie was extensively shot in Goa. We are asked to show the movie footage but the request came in very late, as the movie trailers are ready to be out in theaters on Friday. Nevertheless, we are ready to show the movie footage to concerned authorities in Goa”, said the official spokesperson.
