PANJIM: Tourism Department on Wednesday, finally invited applications from individuals to erect temporary shacks for three tourist seasons over a span of three years from the year 2016 to 19.
The Department of Tourism has decided to set up 259 shacks along North Goa and 108 shacks on South Goa beaches, clarifying that the allotment of shacks is subject to approval by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA).
The Department has classified the beach stretches into category ‘A’ and ‘B’. Shacks in ‘A’ category beaches will have to pay Rs 45,000 for first year, Rs 50,000 for the second year and Rs 55,000 for the third year, while, shacks classified in the ‘B’ category will have to shell out Rs 30,000 for first year, Rs 35,000 and Rs 40,000 accordingly for the next two years.
The category ‘A’ beaches include Calangute, Candolim in North Goa, and Majorda, Colva, Lounginhos (Colva), Colmar(Colva), Benaulim, Calvaddo, Varca, Fatrade (Varca), Mobor (Cavelossim) and Khandivaddo (Cavelossim) in South Goa.
Beaches in category ‘B’, include Keri, Arambol, Mandrem, Morjim, Ozrant, Anjuna, Vagator, Siridao and Chapora in North Goa, while in South Goa includes Velsao, Arrosim, Utorda, Thonvaddo (Betalbatim), Ranvaddo (Betalbatim), Sunset Beach (Betalbatim), Ghortsua Betalbatim, Sernabatim (Colva), Velludo (Benaulim), Zalor, Palolem, Baina and Bogmalo.
The annual fee shall be paid along with the application in the first year and latest by September 15 of the respective year for 2017-18 and 2018-19. In case of non-payment of the annual fee, the applicant shall not be allowed to erect the shack on the allotted location and incase if it is found that a shack allottee has erected the beach shack without the of the fees payment by September 15 of the respective year, the beach shack shall be demolished without any notice and security deposit shall be forfeited to the government treasury.
