The fire at the house of one Joseph Fernandes caused a loss of Rs 7 lakh, while Margao fire personnel saved property worth Rs 9 lakh.
A major tragedy was averted after the fire personnel removed the cylinder from house. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.
According to the Fire Services, they received a call of fire having broken out at a house of Fernandes. On receiving the information, the fire personnel rushed to the site, but could not take the fire tender to the spot due to a narrow road.
However, the fire personnel immediately brought in a smaller vehicle and in the meanwhile they tried to douse the fire manually. Properties such as a refrigerator, a TV set, two cupboards and furniture was reduced into ash in the fire. The wooden rafters and beams roof tiles also got burnt in the fire.
