PANJIM: In a bid to enhance its fire fighting capabilities and make its operations economical, the Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services has begun inducting mist fire tenders to its existing fleet of traditional fire tenders.
Director Ashok Menon said that eight mist fire tenders have already replaced the old ones, which are being decommissioned.
“The fire tenders use simple technology and high pressure water is released from the nozzle to create a mist-effect. It drastically cuts down the direct and indirect wastage of water,” he said.
The department has 32 fire tenders of which 11 are in the process of being decommissioned. These, a fire official said, will be replaced with the water-mist-technology fire tenders. “In future, the vehicles and fire tenders we procure will be fitted with this new technology. Government has granted permission for condemnation and procurement of new ones,” the official said.
