Fisherman rescued off Majorda beach

MARGAO: Drishti lifeguards on Friday rescued a fisherman who accidentally got caught in the winch of a boat and suffered grievous injuries. The incident occurred on Majorda beach at around 9.45 am.

MARGAO: Drishti lifeguards on Friday rescued a fisherman who accidentally got caught in the winch of a boat and suffered grievous injuries. The incident occurred on Majorda beach at around 9.45 am. 
According to a statement by Drishti Lifesaving Services, the 34-year-old fisherman hailing from Nepal was on a fishing boat which was located around 1.5 km out at sea from Majorda and accidentally fell into the water and got caught in the winch of the boat. 
The owner of the fishing boat placed a call to Shashikant Jadhav, Sector Head, Drishti Lifesaving Pvt Ltd, and informed him about the incident. Jadhav instantly alerted the on duty lifeguards about the same. 
Immediately Drishti lifeguards Ramesh Gaonkar and Nitesh Chandekar set off on the Jet Ski to reach the spot and secured the victim, bringing him safely back to the shore. On noticing that the victim had suffered severe injuries on his abdomen and groin areas the lifeguards administered first aid to the victim while simultaneously, a call was placed to 108 ambulance. 
The victim was rushed to Hospicio Hospital in Margao for treatment. 
Due to the severity of his condition he was shifted to GMC hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment, Drishti stated.
