Five dengue cases detected in Areal industrial estate

MARGAO: Even before the onset of monsoons in Goa, five cases of vector-borne diseases have already been detected in the industrial estate at Sao Jose De Areal.

A joint inspection of officials and NGOs was held at the industrial estate on Thursday to take stock of the situation there.
It may be recalled that, last year, the most number of dengue cases was reported from Sao Jose De Areal, near the industrial estate.
IDC Margao Field Manager John Diniz, GOACAN convenor Roland Martins, the Salcete mamlatdar and others were present for the inspection. A meeting was held earlier by Deputy Collector Ajit Panchwadkar regarding the monsoon preparedness of the IDC to avoid a situation like in the last year.
“We had a meeting and then went to the site, and the details of the inspection have been taken. These details will be discussed and action will be planned,” said Diniz, adding, “In 15 days, the cleaning of drains will be done.”
