PERNEM: Five fishermen were rescued from drowning by Drishti lifeguards in two separate incidents at Anjuna and Arambol beaches on Wednesday.
According to sources, the first incident occurred at Anjuna where the engine of a fishing boat went completely out of service putting the lives of six fishermen onboard at risk. The fishing boat was about 150 meters off the shore from the Anjuna beach.

While two fishermen managed to swim to the shore, four panicked due to the situation. Drishti lifesavers Tushar Kharade, Gautam Naik, Sant Parab, Umesh Govekar, Sachin Naik and Naineshwar Parab ventured into the sea and brought them to the shore. Two of them were from Himachal Pradesh while other two were from Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
In another rescue operation, a 35-years-old local fisherman had ventured into the sea for fishing, when he took a nasty fall inside his boat which led to a fracture. The fishing boat was about a kilometre off the shore at Arambol. Drishti lifesavers Sakharam Bandekar and Deepak Gadekar rescued the fisherman and brought him ashore. He was later shifted to a nearby health centre.
