Five kidnap accused acquitted

The South Goa Sessions Court on Thursday acquitted five persons who were charged by Colva police for kidnapping a building contractor from Cavelossim in April last.
Additional Sessions Judge Desmond D’Costa ordered the acquitall of Biranchii Kumar, Bulliver Rodrigues, Mahadev Talwar, Cedric Martins and Charles Rodrigues from all criminal charges.
It was the case of the prosecution that the accused on April 14, 2010 at around 11 am came to a construction site at Cavelossim and allegedly kidnapped Shahnavaz and took him to Zalor beach.
The police had alleged that the accused later beat up the contractor and demanded Rs five lakhs for his release. The accused were later arrested under section 324, 323, 364 (A), 342 and 384 of the IPC.
