A Trommel to segregate and screen existing waste has finally made its presence at the Sonsodo dumping yard on Friday.
Fomento Chief Executive Officer, Sridhar Kamat said that work on installation of the Trommel, which has a capacity to segregate 30 tons of waste per hour, will get underway immediately.
He said the Trommel will be put in operation after the end of monsoons and will take care of the existing waste. “This high capacity Trommel will segregate the plastic from other waste at the site. Work will begin only after the monsoons”, he said.
Fomento had bagged the contract to segregate the existing waste and install a plant and machinery at the site to treat fresh garbage at the site for the next 25 years.
While Fomento has begun work at the site since the last three months, actual work of segregation of existing waste and installation of the garbage treatment plant will commence after the monsoons.
The Margao Municipal Council and Fomento is yet to sign a Concession agreement on Sonsodo till date. In fact, Fomento had returned the draft agreement to the Civic body after effecting a number of changes. The Civic body has dispatched the draft for vetting by the Municipal lawyer, before the same is placed before the Council for approval.
