PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) on Friday adopted a proposal to construct a footbridge to prevent traffic congestion during school leaving hours. The proposal was adopted at a special meeting of the council.
Municipal Chairman Venktesh Naik informed the reporters after the meeting that in the absence of a footbridge the Almeida High School, students are forced to cross the road due to which police have to be stop traffic to allow the students to cross the road. “This is resulting to traffic congestion. Due to traffic jam, fire tenders and ambulances cannot attend to emergency on time to save property and lives. Hence, we have proposed a footbridge for students near this school,” Naik said.
He also assured said that traffic congestion problem would be sorted at Khadpabandh where vehicles are parked on both sides of the road. He informed that work of repairing potholes has commenced.
He also informed that the PMC golden jubilee building project would be completed through the fund sanctioned under Fourteenth Finance Commission. He appreciated chief officer for speedy recovery of tax.
