VASCO: Goa Customs on Friday held an international passenger, native of Vadodara Gujarat, for carrying foreign as well as Indian currency worth Rs 40 lakh at Dabolim airport.
According to information, officials of Air Intelligence Unit of Goa Customs while clearing passengers who had arrived by an Air India Flight to Goa from Dubai found an international passenger suspicious.
“The passenger had opted to walk through the Green Channel meant for passengers who don’t have anything to declare to customs authorities. The search of the hand baggage carried by the passenger resulted in the recovery and seizure of foreign and Indian currency amounting to approximately Rs 40 lakh. The currency has been seized and is liable for confiscation,” Goa Customs Commissioner K Anpazhakan said.
Sources in customs said that as the seized currency is over Rs 20 lakh, the passenger would be arrested after seizure formalities and other legal procedures are completed.
