MARGAO: The Forest Department has stepped up its vigilance to tackle the frog poaching.
Deputy Conservator Anil Shetgaonkar informed that special teams have been appointed to stop frog poaching. He said that the problem is rampant in the Salcete taluka. He has directed officials to arrest poachers immediately. The Forest Department has gone tough on the persons who have captured frogs last year.
The exercise will be carried out throughout monsoons wherein the teams of rescue staff will monitor paddy fields and low lying areas which have the breeding of frogs and are vulnerable to be captured. Appealing to Goans not to kill frogs, Shetgaonkar has emphasised on educators to teach students not to capture animals especially frogs.
