PANJIM: Several people from Chimbel and surrounding areas, protesting IT Park in the village, on Sunday alleged that around 1.5 lakhs sq mtrs of forest land in survey no 40/1 was burnt to facilitate setting up the project.
NGO Chimbel Manch, which is spearheading the opposition to the project, stated that around 600 villagers had gathered at the site where patches of forest were allegedly burnt by unknown persons.
“The villager have decided to restore this burnt forest area and planted 100 plants while more will be planted next weekend,” a member of the NGO said.
The villagers claimed they will not allow the IT Park and rejected the government’s claim that the project is eco-friendly and would provide jobs to youth as false.
