PANJIM: The Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) suffered a jolt when former MP Ashok Tanwar, who was the chairman of the committee to reorganise the party’s Goa unit quit and joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday.

However, Tanwar’s resignation from the party will not impact TMC plans in Goa, said TMC MP and Goa incharge Sushmita Dev.
Tanwar, who was the president of Haryana Congress had resigned from the party in 2019 and had launched a new political party ‘Apna Bharat Morecha’ in February 2019. But after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee swept West Bengal Assembly elections, Tanwar embraced TMC in November last year.
Tanwar along with other party leaders had attended the first pre-poll review meeting with all party candidates in Goa on March 26. After the meeting a committee under the chairmanship of Tanwar was constituted to chalk out the party’s future plans in the State.
When contacted, TMC Goa incharge and MP Sushmita Dev, who is also the one of the committee members said that Tanwar’s exit will not impact the party’s plans in Goa.
“TMC MP Derek O’Brien, Saurav Chakraborthy and myself will go ahead and chalk out the party’s roadmap for Goa. Tanwar quitting the party will not impact us because he was not a politician from Goa,” Dev said.
