PANJIM: Former State Assembly Speaker Vishwas Satarkar has been finalised as the new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), while senior journalist Sanjay Dhavalikar will head as State Information Commissioner (SIC).
Goa Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has cleared the file, with names of Satarkar and Dhavalikar, proposed by the government.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant headed Selection Committee had finalised the names out of total 54 applications received for the two posts.
Sources informed that official announcement on Satarkar as CIC and Dhavalikar as SIC will be made shortly by the government.
Satarkar, a BJP loyalists was elected from Priol Constituency on party symbol in 1999. He was Speaker of Goa Assembly from 2002-05.
Dhavalikar is a senior journalist, currently working as a Editor to one of the leading Marathi daily.
The post of CIC had fallen vacant in February, last year with retirement of Prashant Tendulkar, while SIC Juino De Souza had retired in July, 2020. It’s last SIC Partima Vernekar, demitted office, last week.
After much delay, the State government, in September, 2020, had invited applications for the two posts.
