MARGAO: The foundation stone for the construction of the first floor of the panchayat ghar at Betalbatim was laid on Friday by local MLA Wilfred D’Sa on his birthday and the stone was blessed by Parish Priest Pascoal Afonso who also said a short prayer.
The first floor is being constructed by utilizing Rs 10 lakh that were given as golden jubilee funds to the panchayat about a decade ago and the panchayat would use additional Rs 13 lakh from its funds.
The first floor will have a community hall and some rooms and according to Betalbatim Sarpanch Constancio Miranda the talathi who is presently sitting on the ground floor will be shifted to the first floor.
“We plan to bring the fair price shop on the ground floor and also have plans to set up a library in the panchayat building,” he said expressing gratitude to Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude for giving them the extension to utilise funds.
