MARGAO: Union Ministers of State Shripad Naik and Suresh Angadi on Wednesday unfurled a monumental flag of the country at the Margao railway station and laid the foundation stone for a new foot over bridge.
On the occasion, Shripad, also the North Goa MP, said that since Goa is a tourism hub, efforts have to be made to bring more tourists to the State and that the Railways are also keen on taking benefit of tourism.
Maintaining that cleanliness has to be given top priority, he pointed out that railway stations all over the country have improved tremendously since Prime Minister Narendra Modi picked up the broom to clean the garbage on the road side.
He along with MoS for Railways Suresh Angadi unfurled the monumental flag which is hoisted on a 100 ft tall mast and the flag is 30 ft by 20 ft in size and is made of knitted polyester fabric called Deneir Polyester that will last at least for six months.
The foundation stone for a foot over bridge connecting the four platforms at the station was also laid. The bridge estimated to cost around Rs 5 crore is expected to be completed within a year and both these facilities are provided at Margao station because this is the flagship station of the Corporation.
“Safety is a priority with Indian Railways followed by punctuality and cleanliness,” said Angadi, while adding that the new facilities at the Margao Railway Station would improve the safety of passengers and make the place look more beautiful and easily manageable.
South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha who was supposed to be the chief guest did not attend the programme, which had the presence of Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar.
