PERNEM: Tourism Minister and Pernem MLA Babu Azgaoankar laid the foundation stone for the construction of 14 new houses at Kasarwadnem for 14 families of Mopa Dhangarwadi. The foundation was laid in presence of GMR officials and members of the 14 families.
Government has acquired 36,800 sq mtrs land at Kasarwdnem for rehabilitation of the 14 affected Dhangar community families who are presently residing at Mopa. Each family will get 800 sq mtrs land within which they will be given a constructed house on area of 100 sq mtrs, a 50 sq mtrs area for construction of pond and remaining area for grazing of goats and cultivation, GMR official said.
Talking to media, Azgaoankar said the airport project was brought in Pernem with a priority to settle the people of Pernem. “We have acquired land at Kasarwadnem and have laid foundation stone for construction of 14 houses for rehabilitation of 14 families. This 36,800 sq mtrs land will have 14 houses, a crematorium, a community hall and grazing area for these families with proper water, electricity, road and toilet facilities.
We have fixed monthly meetings with GMR. The first priority will be given to land losers, then to nearby areas and later to the whole taluka, Azgaonkar added.
These 14 families will be shifted as soon as the construction is complete. However, locals have demanded that till the rehabilitation is done, their plantation should not be chopped and they should allowed to cultivate.
