Sanguem police on Thursday morning arrested four persons from Gudi-Paroda, after they allegedly made a futile attempt to kidnap a girl, who was residing in a rented room at Funtemoll-Uguem, Sanguem.
Police sources informed that Mallappa Sitaram Kapot, Vinod Kumar Yadav, Mahendra Nandu Dube and Vijay Bikaji Singbal arrived on two motorcycles late Wednesday evening at Funtemoll and forcibly tried to lift the girl.
Hearing the cry of the girl for help, neighbours ran to the safety of the girl, at which time one of the accused persons hit a villager and threw him down. Later, more villagers gathered and the accused sensing fled from the spot leaving their motorcycles at the site.
Sanguem police on Thursday morning conducted search operations in the nearby villages and arrested all the four accused, who were hiding in the nearby Marangann village. The accused were charged under Sections 323 (assault) and 452 (criminal trespass).
