The state forest department will file chargesheet in the tiger killing case at Keri, next week. The chargesheet comes almost a year after tiger was shot dead.
Chief conservator of forest Dr Shashi Kumar confirming the filing of chargesheet refused to divulge much detail.
However, sources say that the possibilities of filing chargesheet against the suspected persons people cannot be ruled out. Eyewitnesses had given the names of two Majiks for killing the tiger.
The investigation report by the forest department had revealed that three women were present on the day when tiger was killed. “They had climbed on the cashew tree and watched two persons fire on the injured tiger,” the eye witnessed in the report said.
The department which was struggling with the investigations in the case after the first forensic report, which turned negative, got their case bolstered after the second report from the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) confirmed the animal as tiger.
During the second phase of the investigation, the department officials had interrogated few women from Majik community, who were reportedly witness to the killing.
The tiger was poached in Keri in February 2009 and four members from Majik community were arrested and later bailed out triggering a spate of allegations against the forest officers.
