MAYEM: Four workers were arrested, while four trucks and three cutting machines were seized by police, after angry villagers from Van-Maulinguem and Kudchirem in Bicholim Taluka on Saturday forcibly stopped work at a controversial stone quarry at Maulinguem.
According to reports, residents had been frequently complaining about the stone quarry but they complained that none of the authorities had paid heed to their complaint. Left with no option, residents decided to forcibly stop activity at the stone quarry.
The residents then alerted Bicholim police about the activity and a police team rushed to the site and seized four trucks, three cutting machines and arrested four persons working on the stone quarry.
“Due to this illegal stone quarry, there is severe pollution and the activity has also endangered our crops and fields. We will not tolerate such activities,” warned a villager.
Bicholim Police has registered an offence in the matter and PI Neenad Deulkar is investigating the case.
