CANACONA: Four shops were gutted in fire at Palolem, Canacona on Friday morning causing a loss of at least Rs 20 lakh.
Canacona fire station in charge Mahadev Lolienkar informed Herald that the exact cause of the fire was not known, however he suspected a short circuit for the same.
Lolienkar said that the two storerooms and two shops that were gutted in the fire did not possess the mandatory NOC from the Fire and Emergency Services.
“One store room was almost gutted in the fire before we reached there and the loss may be much more than Rs 20 lakh,” Lolienkar said.
According to a local councillor most of the shops at Palolem and its surrounding areas do not have the required documents and municipal licences.
