PANJIM: Freedom fighter Rohidas Dhadd Dessai has claimed that the government has sidelined him from the Freedom Fighters Award, despite asking all the ‘remaining’ freedom fighters to apply for the award.

Dessai claimed that he applied for the first time for felicitation on June 18 last year, only because he saw a news item released by the Home Department asking those who have not been felicitated yet to apply. He has accused the Home Department of deliberately scuttling his application.

“I applied for the felicitation two days before the last date. But when the final list was drawn up, my name was not there. When I inquired with the Home Department, they informed me that my application reached them late,” Dhadd said showing an application with an inward stamp given two days before the last date mentioned in the Home Department appeal.

The Home department appeal stated that according to the Freedom Fighters Association, most of the freedom fighters who are alive have already been felicitated, and those who were yet to be felicitated should approach the Home Department.
