PONDA: The controversial work at the Kranti Maidan in Ponda has now received support from the freedom fighters, who have endorsed the project.
Freedom Fighters Association (FFA) Goa has appealed to the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) not to oppose the ongoing beatification work of Kranti Maidan Ponda.
In a press note, the FFA stated that State government had commenced the work, as it was a long-pending demand of the FFA.
“The PWD minister also convened meeting of freedom fighters and showed the plan and the FFA had laid the foundation stone on December 18,” states the press note.
“The work was started after tender and work order were issued and following all legal formalities. The plan designed by the architect was also displayed in PMC office for suggestions, but nobody raised objections or suggested changes in the plan.”
“Pillars will be setup and names of martyrs and freedom fighters will be displayed on it to know the history of Goa freedom struggle. The work was awarded to an experienced contractor from Karnataka.”
“Sadly, the work has been stopped by alleging fraud. PMC should not become a hurdle or bring any obstruction in the beautification work of Kranti Maidan and the resolution to revoke the beautification work should be cancelled and support the work,” states the press note.
