Panjim: While the slash in fuel prices has been welcomed by the Goenkars, they feel this is not enough as the prices are still very high and need to be brought down even further to control the rising inflation.
The price of petrol will come down by Rs 9.5, while the diesel will be cheaper by Rs 7 as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a sharp cut in central excise duty on fuel prices amid surging inflation.

The central excise duty on petrol has been cut by Rs 8 per litre and the same on diesel has been cut by Rs 6 per litre, said Sitharaman. The government said it will lose Rs 1 lakh crore by taking the cut on central excise duties.
The Minister urged states to implement a similar cut and pass on the benefit to the common man.
“I wish to exhort all state governments, especially the states where the reduction wasn’t done during the last round (November 2021), to also implement a similar cut and give relief to the common man,” appealed Sitharaman.
Speaking to Herald TV, people from across the State gave their opinion on this cut in fuel prices.
Santosh, a commuter in Panjim said: “The price cut has come quite late. But nevertheless, it’s a big relief for the common man. Now the authorities should also think about reducing the cost of commodities, as it is hurting the common man.”
A youngster named Amita said that this decrease in price is good, but a mere reduction by nine rupees is not enough. “As a youth, most of the money is spent on fuel. It is good that prices are cut. But the government must clash the cost even further as even now it is way too high.”
Prasad Govekar from Mapusa criticized the BJP, calling it a “stunt”. “Govt is only doing a stunt and by reducing the fuel cost and then saying that people come first. Why didn’t the people come first earlier?” he asked.
