GAAL Honda office workers demand dues

VALPOI: Goa Auto Accessories Ltd, (GAAL) a subsidiary of EDC Goa, has served notice of closure informing that its GAAL office at Honda will be closed down from March 10.
The notice has been served under the Industrial Disputes Act, mentioning various reasons that have led to unsustainable business.
Addressing a news conference at Valpoi, GAAL workers union claimed that workers have not been paid salaries for three months ~ since October 2013.
“We strongly demand that workers be given 90 days salaries per year to be calculated on basis of number of years of services put in while giving benefits under VRS scheme,” demanded GAAL Workers Union President Satish Tari.
Other union members Manu Naik, Rohidas Naik, Jayram Naik, Sajulo Gaonkar and Pradeep Dessai told media that the closure of the company would severely affect 47 workers and their families.
Many of the 47 affected workers informed media persons that workers who have put in 30 years of service at the company presently draw a meagre salary of just Rs 16000 to Rs 17000.
