PANJIM: Krishna Kuttikar, the youth whose hand was chopped off in the gruesome attack on Sunday night, has succumbed to his injuries.
Old Goa Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi said that late Tuesday night, Krishna who was a resident of Nagali in Taleigao passed away at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) in Bambolim while undergoing treatment.
He added that the post mortem examination was conducted on Wednesday and the cause of death was certified as fatal injuries to hand and chest. The body has been handed over to the relatives of the deceased for final religious rites.
Krishna had suffered huge blood loss after his left hand had been chopped off by a koita when he tried to defend himself during the gruesome attack on Sunday night near the Ribandar ferry wharf. His brother Yuvnath is undergoing treatment for being attacked by the same accused earlier in a separate attack near their residence in Nagali in Taleigao.
Meanwhile, Panjim police arrested one of the four masked accused who had been absconding after the attack on Yuvnath. The fifth accused has been identified as Deepesh Gauns and is a resident of Nagali in Taleigao. He has been booked under sections 143, 147, 307 read with 149 of the Indian Penal Code.
While the three accused arrested by Old Goa Police and the one accused arrested have been sent to 7 days police custody on Tuesday, Deepesh has been sent to 6 days police custody by the Court.
