Gaondongrim youth donate money to accident victim

CANACONA, MARCH 9 Youth of Gaondongrim and surrounding areas donated cash to the family of a boy, who was seriously injured after he met with a bus accident.

Youth of Gaondongrim and surrounding areas donated cash to the family of a boy, who was seriously injured after he met with a bus accident.
Tukaram Kust Gaonkar, Std 9 student of Government High School Gaondongrim, seriously injured his right leg in a bus accident three months ago while proceeding to his school.
Tukaram, who resides with his poor farmer family at Tamnem-Gaondongrim, was reportedly seated on the last bus seat, when the accident turned his life upside down.
He has since been operated and fitted with steel plates and rods to support his recovery.
However, the local youths noticed the poor family of Kust Gaonkar financially going through a bad patch and decided to do something for the family.
Ably assisted by Gaondondgrim Sarpanch Rajendra Velip, several youth started to make contributions from well-wishers to hand over a decent amount to the family and accordingly succeeded in collecting Rs 15,000 in a short span of time.
Most of the youth, including the sarpanch and a former deputy sarpanch Narayan Gaonkar, reached the boy’s house at Talem on Sunday and handed over the cash to Kust Gaonkar, father of Tukaram.
Meanwhile, the youths have demanded financial assistance to the family from Chief Minister’s relief fund at the earliest possible to tide over the financial difficulties presently faced by the family.
Former minister Isidore Fernandes, when informed about the plight of Tukaram’s family, assured to approach Chief Minister Digambar Kamat at the earliest possible impressing him the need to extend financial assistance.
