It may be recalled that the post of sarpanch was lying vacant since December 24 after former sarpanch Deepak Pavaskar was voted out in a no-confidence motion.
In a special meeting in the panchayat office, Gaonkar’s candidature was proposed by Panch Ramakant Gaonkar, while Umesh Gaonkar seconded it. Gaonkar was elected unopposed as his rival Deepak Pavaskar withdrew his nomination at the last moment. All nine panchas were present at the special meeting. Vaman Gaonkar from Dharbandora BDO office was Presiding officer.
